Performance Documents (Part 1)

Performance Documents is an ongoing series of paintings and ephemera examining the lives and works of a group of fictional performance artists active in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.  Each Painting is a stand in for the photographic documentation of a performance or action while the accompanying ephemera approximates the items the artists may have kept for their archives.  Part 1 is a look at the fictional artist Sylvia Hansen (born August 30th, 1946), a Los Angeles based, feminist artist active throughout the 1970s.  Her work often draws on technology and mysticism to explore themes such as marriage, trust, and the role feminism plays in both the personal and public spheres.
